Do you need a self assessment tax return?

HMRC requires a self assessment return from anyone in the following situations. If you’re unsure whether you need to file, we’ll tell you for free.

Limited Company Directors

If you draw salary and dividends from your own company, you must file a personal self assessment return every year.

Self-Employed & Sole Traders

Any self-employment income over £1,000 must be reported via self assessment, regardless of whether you made a profit.

Landlords

Rental income from residential or commercial property must be declared, even if the property is jointly owned.

High Earners

If you or your partner earns over £50,000 and claims Child Benefit, you must file a return for the High Income Child Benefit Charge.

Foreign Income

Any income received from abroad — including foreign employment, dividends, or rental — must be declared on a self assessment return.

Capital Gains

If you’ve sold shares, a second property, or other assets resulting in a gain, this must be reported and any tax paid.

Simple from start to submission

Three clear steps — you complete our questionnaire below, we do the rest, and nothing is submitted until you’ve approved it.

1

Complete the Questionnaire

Fill in our secure online tax questionnaire below. It takes around 5 minutes and tells us everything we need to prepare your return.

2

We Prepare Your Return

Your dedicated ACCA-qualified accountant prepares your tax return, claims all available reliefs, and sends you a draft to review.

3

You Approve, We File

Once you’ve approved the draft, we submit it to HMRC and send you confirmation. We also advise on your tax liability and payment deadline.
